Yuengling's expansion into Arkansas is part of its gradual westward growth, with the company traditionally having a strong presence in states east of the Mississippi River. In 2021, the brewery further expanded westward by partnering with Molson Coors to distribute its beer to western states for the first time. This move marked a significant step for the family-owned brewer, known for its German-style lager, to increase its distribution footprint while maintaining its independence.
As of 2024, Yuengling distributes its beer to 26 states across the US, with a steady trend of adding, on average, one state per year to its distribution network.

History of Yuengling beer
D.G. Yuengling & Son, established in 1829, is the oldest operating brewing company in the United States. It is headquartered in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and has additional facilities in Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, and Tampa, Florida. The Tampa facility was previously a Stroh's brewery, which Yuengling acquired in 1999.
The company was founded by German brewer David Gottlob Yuengling (born David Gottlieb Jüngling), who immigrated to the United States in 1828. He anglicized his surname from Jüngling, which means "youngster" in German, to Yuengling and started the "Eagle Brewery" on Centre Street in Pottsville in 1829. The brewery was named after the qualities of strength and pride, symbolised by the American eagle. The eagle trademark still features on every Yuengling label today.
Tragedy struck just two years later when the Centre Street brewery burned down. However, Yuengling persevered and rebuilt the brewery at its current location on Mahantongo Street in 1831. In 1873, the brewery's name was changed to D.G. Yuengling & Son when David's second son, Frederick, joined the business. David's eldest son, David Jr., had left to establish the James River Steam Brewery in Richmond, Virginia.
Yuengling survived the Prohibition era by producing "near beers" with a 0.5% alcohol content, including Yuengling Special, Yuengling Por-Tor, and Yuengling Juvo. The company also ran a dairy that produced ice cream and opened dance halls in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York City.
In 1933, when Prohibition was repealed, Yuengling introduced its Winner Beer to celebrate and shipped a truckload to the White House as a token of appreciation for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Yuengling has continued to innovate and expand over the years, introducing new beers and increasing its distribution footprint. In 1987, the company reintroduced an amber lager that became its flagship brand, accounting for 80% of production. In 2018, Yuengling expanded its distribution to Arkansas, becoming the 21st state in its network. The company also partnered with Molson Coors in 2021 to bring its beers to the West Coast for the first time.
