Reviews for Frostie Root Beer are mixed. Some praise it as the "best root beer out there", with a smooth and creamy taste, a good bite, and the right amount of carbonation. One review noted that it is bright from the sugar with a full and earthy root beer flavouring.

However, other reviews have criticised Frostie for being too sweet, with too much carbonation, and an underwhelming flavour. One review noted that the root beer had a strange, unplaceable flavour that was off-putting. Another review stated that Frostie was forgettable and lacked substance.

Overall, Frostie Root Beer seems to be a polarising drink, with some loving its traditional flavour and others finding it disappointing.

Frostie Root Beer's history

Frostie Root Beer is an American brand of root beer that was originally produced in 1939 by The Frostie Beverage Company of Catonsville, Maryland, owned by George Rackensperger. Rackensperger began his root beer adventure when he opened his own bottling plant in a suburb located outside of Baltimore. He rented an abandoned jailhouse and started his bottling operation in the garage area that used to be used for police wagons. This sole bottling plant supplied all of the soda demand for Frostie Root Beer until demand increased beyond the capabilities of this plant.

Over the next decade, Frostie Root Beer continued to grow and was being enjoyed in a majority of the states with the assistance of franchised bottlers. Soon Frostie was a national franchised beverage company. The brand has since been sold multiple times, with the parent company, Frostie Enterprises, purchasing competing root beer brands and drive-in chains in 1971 and 1974. At the end of 1979, the Frostie brand was sold to the Monarch Beverage Company of Atlanta, Georgia. After years of being under-promoted by Monarch in favor of Dad's Root Beer, the brand was sold in 2000 to Leading Edge Brands of Temple, Texas.

In 2009, Leading Edge Brands sold the Frostie line of beverages to Intrastate Distributors Inc. of Detroit, Michigan. As of 2014, it is now distributed by Excel Bottling Company of Breese, Illinois. Frostie Root Beer is known for its smooth vanilla taste and subtle wintergreen and anise flavor. It is made with pure cane sugar and has a smooth and creamy texture.
