Wasatch and Squatters became sister breweries in 2002

In 1986, Greg Schirf, who had recently moved to Utah from Milwaukee, founded Wasatch Brewery in Park City. Wasatch was Utah's first craft brewery and sparked a state-wide craft beer revolution. Three years later, in 1989, Squatters Craft Beers was established in Salt Lake City.

Wasatch and Squatters merged their production operations in 2000, creating the Utah Brewers Cooperative. The two breweries, which had been facing financial difficulties, moved to the same location to cut down on costs for brewing and packaging. In 2002, Wasatch and Squatters officially became sister breweries. That same year, Squatters opened a second pub in the Salt Lake City International Airport.

In 2012, the Utah Brewers Cooperative was purchased by a Boston-based private-equity firm, Fireman Capital Partners. Today, Squatters beer is sold in 20 states and can even be found in China.
