Ayinger Brewery in Aying, Bavaria

The Ayinger Brewery is located in the village of Aying, in the heart of Upper Bavaria, about 25km south of Munich. The brewery is known for its excellent beer specialties and is one of the most renowned breweries in Europe. The family-run brewery has been in operation for over 140 years, producing world-famous beer specialties that are exported to Italy, the United States, and the rest of Europe.

The history of the Ayinger Brewery dates back to 1878 when it was founded by Johann Liebhard. Liebhard received a family-owned farm from his father, Franz, and together they decided to open a brewery to cater to the demand for fresh beer from the residents of the Aying agrarian region. In 1877, Liebhard built a brewery building, a malt house, and a fermentation plant. The first batch of Ayinger beer was poured in February 1878 and sold to nearby taverns a few months later.

The brewery has had its challenges, including the impact of World War I and an economic crisis that slowed down its development. However, the family's strong financial and social commitment to the business and the community helped it persevere. In 1962, Franz Inzelkammer, the great-grandson of Augustus Ciechentmayr, joined the company's board, restoring the old restaurant, building a new bottling plant, and expanding the business.

Today, the Ayinger Brewery continues to be owned by the Inselkammer family and employs about 70 people. The brewery produces 136,000 hectoliters of beer annually, maintaining the traditional Bavarian brewery culture and hospitality. Visitors can enjoy the famous beer specialties, brewed according to the purity law of 1506, in the Ayinger Bräustüberl, a traditional Bavarian beer hall in the middle of the village. The Brauereigasthof Hotel Aying, located directly opposite, offers 48 beautifully furnished 4-star superior rooms, as well as a restaurant serving Bavarian cuisine.
