Little Kings is a product of the Hudepohl Brewing Company

In 1981, Hudepohl introduced a new super-premium brand called Christian Moerlein Cincinnati Select Lager, which was a success. However, the company's primary brands were losing market share, and in 1986, Hudepohl merged with Schoenling Brewing Company, makers of Little Kings Cream Ale. The combined company was known as the Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Company. In 1997, the brewery was sold to Boston Beer Company, and production of Hudepohl-Schoenling beers was moved out of Cincinnati.

In 2004, Greg Hardman, a Cincinnati resident and beverage industry veteran, purchased the Christian Moerlein brand and acquired the rights to buy the other old Hudepohl-Schoenling brands if they came up for sale.
